@lewisdermatology: October is #MenopauseAwarenessMonth, and the changes that come with it often show up in the skin first. Perimenopause can last several years, and for some women, a decade or MORE! Throughout that time, hormones fluctuate and estrogen gradually declines, and I see the skin respond to each shift. In my patients, estrogen-deficient skin typically shows up as dehydration, uneven pigmentation, broken capillaries, loss of elasticity, and earlier jowling. The skin also produces less elastin and hyaluronic acid, which is why it can start to look thinner and drier. Understanding what is happening is the first step toward knowing how to care for it. In my next video, I’ll go through how skincare changes during perimenopause and menopause.
