Despite what people say, Costa is very popular in the UK & Ireland, I would argue that it could be considered the primary “third space” cafe chain for boomers & the elderly, it sounds like whoever Coca Cola have put in charge of bringing Costs to the US has done a terrible job.

They’re everywhere here in Ireland and I have no idea how they make money. They are exceptionally expensive and the coffee is absolutely muck.

Coca-Cola thought it could take a strong UK coffee brand and scale it globally using the same distribution machine that sells soda everywhere. But coffee isn’t just another beverage category — it’s habit, place, culture and brand identity. Scale can amplify demand. It can’t manufacture it.
