I do find it odd that people criticize his horror books for being uncomfortable. That is literally the entire point.

Admittedly, he’s always been very vocal about calling out JK Rowling on her BS when it comes to trans folk. He also has a long history of support for the LGBT+ community.

as a black woman i’d like to argue that for the sake of ending systemic racism, the word should be used in literature based in those time periods as a way to show both how harmful the racist mindset is as well as to show how far we’ve come (or even draw parallels to our current society). I believe that seeing it in writing and even in movies helps to trigger an emotional response that readers/watchers will be able to think about for a while. idk if this makes any sense.

Writing a book set in historical America and not having racial slurs works be white washing history. It doesn’t perpetuate systemic racism, it exposes it.

The racist language/time period excuse is weak. He never let up on it throughout most of his books. He may not use that specific word but he make sure there’s a racist character.

To be fair when it comes to "THAT" Scene in the IT book, we have to remember the context i. which it was written, as this was a time where King was more than slightly addicted to white, powdery nose candy and alcohol. This man was wigged out like no joke and you can see how it made him write IT to be almost 1200 pages long. Doesn't make the scene itself any better but it gives context of "Oh yeah, someone high as balls and drunk all at once, wrote this."

I lived in Bangor briefly, I could walk to his house. Everyone in that town loves that man, he’s done so much for the town.

I've been a fan for a very long time but I'm still having issues with his "defense" of Graham Planter. 😔
