@theatlantic: A series of major cybersecurity attacks forced websites across the web to shut down this week, in an event some have dubbed “Black October.” Cybersecurity officials are now racing to patch vulnerabilities in the internet before AI-assisted hackers can exploit them further, Matteo Wong reports. Read the story at the link.
Still waiting for at least one (1) significant, material benefit from AI as we see all of this harm.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if this was the start of going back to analog. Imagine people not being so addicted to technology. Maybe we would have more creativity, better sources of information, more difficult to blast out misinformation.

I don’t believe we will ever catch up or keep up. Using “this Internet” for anything important is quickly becoming unsafe. Likely it will need to be abandoned for non-digital means where possible. Right now I feel like the band is playing on the Titanic.

Should Crowdstrike and Cloudflare be preventing this from happening?

In this case, AI is proving to be more effective at exploiting vulnerabilities rather than discovering them because this was already a known bug

I hate AI so much. Nothing is stable in life anymore. We have no real government, can’t afford anything, now information isn’t even safe with products and services that are typically safe. And we’re being told there’s nothing we can really do. I give up.

Isn't PHP open source? Did that make it more vulnerable?

People don't remember bricking the family computer using kazaa/etc. or when a random pop-up ad would infect your computer. We'll just the kinds of firewalls described in series such as Neuromancer and Ghost in the Shell from back in the 90s. People just got lazy and too complacent due to being conditioned for passive consumption.
