@itsjillianrowe: Your family is standing over your hospital bed, talking about you like you’re already gone. You can hear every word. You understand everything. You’re screaming for them to notice you. But your body won’t move. Your mouth won’t open. And no one knows you’re still in there. This is the nightmare of locked-in syndrome — a rare neurological condition that can leave you almost completely paralyzed while your mind remains fully aware. Today we’re diving into the terrifying science behind it, the extraordinary story of Jean-Dominique Bauby, and the chilling reality of being trapped inside your own body. Day 23 of 31 Days of Nope. 🧠💀 #31DaysOfNope #LockedInSyndrome #Neurology #MedicalMysteries #ScienceTok
you should talk about Guillain Barre Syndrome next. It's one of the scariest things that can seemingly happen out of nowhere

I rlly like how u actually go into detail about disorders like this instead of just talking about how horrifying it is without actually informing people of anything about it.

My father died of a rare neurological disease. It's called progressive supranuclear palsy. I just recently discovered that Dudley Moore, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Linda Ronstadt all had/have it. You literally forget how to walk, talk, and it presents just like Parkinson's. But my father died just 2 years after he got sick. He was correctly diagnosed until 4 months before he died. Sadly my mom never quite understood what was wrong with him. He's been gone almost 10 years. It's a horrible disease but I like to try and shine light on it. So people know.

I swear I had something similar with the birth of my daughter. I went through all my contractions without being able to speak a word or move. So much pain and couldn’t tell anyone. The belt around my belly moved so they weren’t seeing all contractions just hearing fetal heartbeat. My husband and mom thought I was just sleeping..Hours went by as I was frozen. Until all sudden I could move and speak again. I screamed at top of my lungs at everyone. And they found me already at 10 centimeters dilated and ready to push. Total PTSD with no explanation

Okay, first of all, I hope you are resting and snuggly and sinus rinsing and hot teaing and I hope you sleep really well tonight. Second of all, would you please consider doing an episode on electroconvulsive therapy (aka electroshock)? I had nearly 4 years of it and it was by far the worst decision I have ever made and I’ve made some bad decisions in life. By the time I stopped, I could no longer state my name or birthdate on command, I had to relearn how to write, how to hold a pen, how to drive. I lost decades of memories, from my advanced education to cross country road trips to meeting and falling in love with my partner. When I stopped ECT, I knew my partner was my person, but I didn’t know anything about him. I still have trouble with speaking so I prefer to write for most of my communication. And my short term memory is so bad that I can’t really read anymore because I can’t hold on to a story beyond a paragraph. I am 47 and I have been done with ECT for about a year and a half. I am in a support group with people that have way worse damage than I do up to and including quadriplegics. I would love to see you do your take on it.

that's insane he was able to write that book! In this case I almost wish the eggs were all in one basket as far as the body function control goes. I feel like I'd rather be shut down entirely versus trapped

as much as my stroke sucked, it was in the back bottom left side of my brain. i lost words, then they were scrambled. and now i lose them when i'm really tired or when i first wake up. and i still have issues with music sometimes. i don't always recognize the song. but i'm so glad i physically recovered easily.

I've had sleep paralysis since is was a child. My irritational fear is one day it would turn into this. Although, I didn't know this was an actual thing.

This is exactly what happened to me during labor when an anesthesiologist put my epidural up too high. It was terrifying.
