@kellycaspersonmd: Losing weight? Great. Losing muscle while you do it? Not great. Any type of weight loss means some of what you lose can be muscle. That includes a GLP-1, a diet, or surgery. And muscle isn’t just for looks. It’s your metabolic organ. It’s your glucose sink. It’s what keeps you upright, independent, and out of the hip fracture statistics at 80. So what’s actually necessary to hang onto it? The power of lifting heavy things (progressively heavier, not the same pink dumbbells forever) The power of not losing weight as fast as humanly possible The power of measuring body composition, not just the scale The power of talking to your doctor about how you’re losing, not just how much On Episode 393 of You Are Not Broken, @drrebbeccaherteldo and I break down what the evidence says you need to protect your muscle, whatever path you’re taking. The scale doesn’t tell the whole story. Your muscle does.

river_runs_wild :
disappointing comment about "the same pink dumbbells". I used to be strong as an ox. ruptured discs & spinal stenosis is real & some of us do what we can instead of nothing at all.
