Growing up in apartments in the 80s and renting apts in college early 2000s they were just apartments and a leasing office. Very cheap. Now they come with pools, gyms, tennis courts and all the bells and whistles. They cost more because they can charge for every single extra that renters are interested in.

1. Inelastic markets like housing and groceries are inherently predatory, because unlike elastic markets, you dont lose business by raising the price. Capitalism as an economic system does not address this dynamic in any way, so that price gouging is still a result of the capitalist structure we live under. 2. Capitalism is not just the existence of markets. Markets existed long before capitalism was even a concept. Capitalism is the distribution of value based on owned capital. Those with more get more, perpetuating a cycle that funnels to the top. 3. The thing about a "free" market is that ANYTHING goes, including bribing a military power into bullying your competition into submission. If you want to stop that you need to make it illegal to do, which is a regulation on the market, making it no longer "free".

You don't "like" capitalism for consequentialist reasons. You have a deontological belief on the morality of "capitalism". Our lives have taught us that capitalism, as a morality play, is bs. We aren't against markets per se for some goods. We're for democratic socialism because we don't believe your version of capitalism is a moral way to distribute the production of our society.

That is bull shit, don’t infantilize us, we know exactly what that is. Capitalism failed to have regulations in corporate monopolies, it captured the government. This is capitalism. Late-stage capitalism sucks. We either want market humanism or socialism. And yes socialism also has markets just like feudalism did. We aren’t dumb, but maybe you don’t know what socialism is.
