@sarahbanksie: Felt the need to chat about owning an aggressive breed dog while having kids. We rescued our pitbull mix almost 4 years ago, and I’m SO glad we got to save her life; however, I know how cautious I have to be. She is so sweet, kind, and loves our family but I also know her breed is aggressive. Before you adopt, do your research and due diligence to know the breed you are getting. Also, I’ve been so sick in bed all day, which is why I look the way I do…apologies for that! #pitbullsoftiktok #pitbull #agressivedog

As a 911 dispatcher, it’s not every pitbull…. But it’s always a pitbull 🫤

I have 3 pits. My oldest girl is going on 13. I would not refer to this breed as aggressive. They are wonderful protective loving family pets and used to be referred to as the "nanny breed" because they were so great with children. My kids were raised with this breed and our dogs have always been wonderful with our kids. Never once any type of incident whatsoever. My kids are all grown now and guess what breed my son has?? Yep... a cuddle bug big goofy silly happy full of love Pitbull!! 💜

You don’t seem to understand the breed. Sure, if a dog has a rough background, there are concerns. The propaganda against them is harmful and has no basis in fact.

I don't think pitbulls are actually more aggressive than other breeds, (mine is a big mush) but they are stronger than a lot of other breeds and therefore the impact can be way worse if a pitbull were to snap. I 100% agree with you, I teach my kids to leave my dog alone and usually have my dog come with my anytime I leave the room because you just never know - I think this should be common practice for all dog owners with kids - even a small dog could cause serious injuries it's just less likely

I think this is an extremely responsible take. I’ve seen so many horror stories where a dog who has never once shown aggression decides to attack small children. I have a German Shepherd rescue with two boys both under 3 who has also never once shown aggression and I follow very similar precautions. You can never be TOO careful, because all it takes is one second with your eyes off of your babies for something to take a bad turn

Regardless of breed, this is the smart choice.

This is really just being a responsible pet owner. You understand the capabilities of her breed and are actually protecting her by not putting her in situations where those situations may arise. Knowing the the consequences for an accident happening whether thats her fault or a humans fault usually results in euthanasia for most cities, taking her out of the equation during visits from others is the best thing you could do for her.

THIS. We have pitties and babies and although we love them dearly, we will never not be cautious. Sometimes the kennel is the safest and most responsible place for them when we have guest or are babies are eating, etc. ❤️‍🩹

this should be the take with every dog, it is VERY responsible and how I live my life with my pitbull AND my lab. I work at a pediatric hospital and we see kids with dog bites every single day. A whole host of breeds too. At the end of the day dogs are animals. We love them, I love them, I would lie my life down for both of my dogs but never forget they are animals and every animal is capable of being aggressive. Also teach your kids to respect animals 🫶

I have two bully rescues. American bully and pitbull/staffy mix. 9 months pregnant w my first baby, we do not ignorantly trust our rescues w our baby. They will be separate majority of time. Once they coexist we will also never let our guard down. This is being a good dog owner, thank you for this take!!! Not everyone understands.

I don’t think this has to do with the breed, yes I have a pitty mix so I am bias towards the breed BUT I think even if you had a Maltese you should NEVER leave your child unattended or be careful who you bring around your dog. We are their voice so we need to continue to train and be respectful and careful about putting them in dangerous situations and environments.

I think umbrelling pit bulls under agresive that is very harmful. Any dog owner especially a large breed dog owner should know that’s an animal and to be carful. It’s not just pit bulls but every large dog

I have a 14 year old Labrador/Pitbull mix and a 9 year old Staffordshire Terrier. I also take precautions with them and my young children. I think people forget the “Terrier” part of the breed. It predisposes them to small animal reactivity due to genetics. And that should not be ignored when there are small humans in a house hold ESPECIALLY during the crawling stage.

Girl what lol “Pitbulls are an aggressive breed but she’s never bit anyone” 🧐🤔 Pitbulls are not an aggressive breed. All breeds can be aggressive lol && Pitbulls are protective as they should be. Especially a rescue.

my pit mix will only attack with kisses, she is a gentle sweet sole. as her owner I would never say my dog is aggressive or her Brees is aggressive I like to see people change their opinion when they spend time with her

I also have a pitbull mix and 2 kids. She was rescued and fostered at 6 weeks of age and we adopted her at 12 weeks. She is a wonderful dog to us. But I also do not trust her. She was raised with love and she’s been trained but she has teeth. Big ones. I watch her every move around my kids. And I don’t allow her around anyone else’s kids. It comes with extreme responsibility. I’m so glad she’s here and she protects us but there’s levels to it.

I think with any dog and kids being EXTREMELY cautious is the only option! Any dog, any animal can snap. Someone just commented how good we are with keeping our toddler away from our dog - but it’s really our only way to do it. This is such a good perspective 🤍

You couldn’t have said it perfectly. I tell everyone who has an opinion. “I trust them with me and my husband but will not trust them with my son. I love them, but I know how to handle them my son will not”

And what's funny is have 2 "aggressive breeds" a pit mix with Doberman and a Great Dane. And would leave my son with those two female dogs before I leave my son with any human

We have a pitty too. When I came home with my son he was muzzled and crated because he was growling and barking at my newborn. It took FOREVER to get them acquainted (and we have had him since puppyhood) now everything is chill for them and he’s very sweet to my son and loves to play with him BUT we never caught slipping. Absolutely always on guard. Just like u said we love them don’t trust them!! Good job mama I bet everything will be fine but i love that you are keeping everyone safe.
