His criticism of the critics is accurate. His ranking of himself as a songwriter is laughable.

What’s the difference between them championing Rhianna and him championing Yungblud?

He's right. They were puppets of the studios and most of what was being pushed in the 2000s sucked.

He’s never been one of the best songwriters in his home town let alone the world. And god damn he still has a chip on his shoulder for not being celebrated like Kurt in the 90s.

Overnight when Taylor swifts album came out they suddenly had her whole catalogue reviewed with high ratings. Gross

I really like Smashing Pumpkins but I think this is a bit of an ahistorical take. I loved rock music in the 90s but also loved Britney and pop. There’s always been cross-pollination between the two, Pitchfork didn’t invent that.

Didn't his run just come to an end? Because there were other indie musicians who came up from the ground during the '00s that were celebrated who weren't Rihanna.

He's not right. Pitchfork didn't invented poptimism, and the problem with music criticism is much more complex.

he WAS one of the best song writers in the world. He had one good album, one amazing album, and one self indulgent good double album and everything after that was crap and it got worse each year.

The fact is, they went from Gish and Siamese Dream which were really great alternative records to Infinite Sadness, chasing the pop charts. They lost their core audience, couldn't compete in the pop world and became irrelevant. It was an obvious example of what alt bands shouldn't do.
