I cut off the root end a bit; flip the onion over so the flat end is on the cutting board; then cut in half. Peel off the skin; then cut or chop the onion.

Get a couple of wet paper towels & crumble them up & put them on the cutting board. It captures the gases from the onions and decreases the fumes that go into your eyes!! 💯
