I was born and raised in the same small Iowa town that brought you Fareway grocery stores. I remember, as a kid, the meat departments signs advertising the selling of Iowa beef and pork! Now they get their beef from out of state, mostly Texas. I also remember farmers bragging about going to the USSR and teaching the people there how to farm better. Now I hear not only Iowa farmers, but others as well, bitch and moan about how little they get for their crops. Don’t educate others on how to take food from your families mouths unless you are ready to feed them cow pies for dinner!!!

I may be misunderstanding this but I'd sell steers directly to customers. I'd take it to a small family locker call the customer once I had a hanging weight to give them the exact price then they call the locker with how they want it cut up. isn't that selling directly to a customer? yes someone else cuts it up but theres really no middle man. maybe I'm misunderstanding when you said its illegal to sell beef directly to people

UGH.....to be clear.....this a GOOD THING overall. I don't want the farmer down there who was eating horse paste during covid or drinking raw milk now selling beef he raised and butcher himself that might have thrush because he can't take care of them. however the MAIN concern is most farmers do not own or have the ability to store how much beef they can slaughter at a safe temp. @Farming While Beige did a full video explain how you don't want the MAJORITY of farmers doing this because of public health issues. go buy a half cow from a butcher for 2400ish and call it a day.

These rules are in place because many people got sick from farmers not using sanitary conditions.
So sure advocate for limited butchering rules. Not contaminated food supply.

okok, but hear me out, injured anamle needs to be dispatched immediately or separated and doctored which equals $, not dragged through another trailer, another holding lot and pushed through a processors shoot, that's the hardship. Its called a downer (a anamle that is down or pore). If a downer goes through the processors not only its is meet thrown out, but all the meet before and after because we arnt sure that it was just a broken leg and the processing equipment may have been contaminated.. But yes , it is ridiculous that local meat isn't being sourced locally.

Idc if he is from Iowa or not but this is what America is supposed to be! Support your state not global market America first then we can look at helping others. Others are doing better than Americans now and that's not right.
