@pixelated_periwinkle: OUTSIDERS THINK THEY UNDERSTAND PENNSYLVANIA… UNTIL THEY ACTUALLY DRIVE THROUGH IT. They see the big cities and think they know the state. Then they hit a pothole big enough to need its own ZIP code, get stuck behind an Amish buggy, and spend 20 minutes arguing with their GPS because the shortcut leads to a road that hasn’t been paved since 1987. Welcome to Pennsylvania, where the deer have no respect for traffic laws, the construction barrels have permanent residency, and your tire-pressure warning light turns on every time the temperature drops five degrees. We have people who swear by Sheetz, people who would fight for Wawa, and people who quietly choose Rutter’s and want no part of the drama. We have pierogies, scrapple, dippy eggs, soft pretzels, and enough regional food arguments to keep Thanksgiving interesting for generations. Our directions sound like this: “Turn left where the old Kmart used to be, keep going past the red barn, and if you hit the deer crossing, you went too far.” We’ve got coal towns, Amish country, mountain roads, big-city neighborhoods, tiny diners, county fairs, fire-company chicken barbecues, and grandmothers who know everybody in three townships. And no matter where you go, something is under construction. That’s the beauty of Pennsylvania. It doesn’t always make sense to outsiders, but to us, it feels like home. #wawavssheetz #gotbuggies #gotsteel #gotmountains #mymayorcantspell
