SPOILER COMMENT: The fact they are trying to make everything evil to prove their ship is endgame; Az’s shadows, the house of wind, his siphons, Lucien, Gwyn, Rhys etc just shows they know it’s not going to happen. They’re pulling anything out of the hat they can to try and salvage the absolute shit show that was elriel in this book.

Not for nothing, I’m only on chapter 16 and Azriel thinks more about that damn knife and his ex-situationship than “the girl who was supposed to be meant for him.” Elain only crosses his mind when she’s directly in front of him, even then barely.

As someone who’s read every single Sarah book, she writes her romance and endgame couples very similar. She can’t help herself. From pattern recognition it’s NOT ELRIEL. Way too many classic and red flags. We will see what happens with Lucien and Elain but the blurb for the January book implies forced proximity.

From a neutral perspective, the fantasy side of the story seems to be pointing toward Gwynriel. Elain has been talking about Vassa’s curse since book three, and now she’s going to Vallahan. Lucien will probably end up there too, looking for a way to break Vassa’s curse, especially since he mentioned in ACOSF that he’d already searched all over Prythian. Meanwhile, Gwyn is practically being described as Starborn in this book. Gwydion, Truth-Teller’s twin sword, only glows for the Starborn, and Gwyn’s singing led Nesta to the Harp, which could potentially make her a target for Koschei. I feel like people are so focused on the romance that they’re overlooking the actual fantasy plot 😭
