watching this triggers something deep in me. it reminds me so much of my dad and the kind of home we grew up in. i used to dread going home from school, knowing that another day would mean waking up to the sound of my parents fighting. my sibling and i even decided to study far away, hoping that distance would give us some peace from the chaos papa brought into our lives. we were always walking on eggshells whenever he was around, constantly mindful of what we said or did just to avoid triggering another outburst. and as much as we were relieved to finally be away from that environment, a part of us could never truly feel at peace because we knew mom was still back home, left to endure his vices and abuse on her own. it’s a different kind of pain when leaving home becomes your way of finding peace, but even from afar, you can never stop worrying about the person you had to leave behind. we may have found a way to escape the chaos, but the fear and helplessness of knowing what mom still has to go through will always follow us.
