@sarahjones5886: Ernest Hemingway Wrote The Sun Also Rises at 26—Now His Daughter-in-Law Says He Was “Well Beyond His Years” The Sun Also Rises is turning 100. And the author’s family is still talking about it. A 100th anniversary celebration was held at 92NY in New York on October 22. Angela Hemingway Charles, Ernest Hemingway’s daughter-in-law, spoke with PEOPLE there. “The entire book still resonates today. It is current,” she said. Hemingway was only 26 when he started writing his debut novel. His daughter-in-law says that wisdom showed. “I believe that he was well beyond his years of understanding about life and war, the complexity of people,” she said. The novel is set after World War I. It follows a group of British and American citizens who moved to Paris, then travel to Spain. It is widely considered a seminal book about the Lost Generation. The night also included a reading from Maya Hawke, Sarah Pidgeon, Joy Sunday, Will Harrison, Dominic Sessa, Titus Welliver, and Richard Schiff. Hemingway’s grandson Brendon and great-grandson Patrick Hemingway-Adams attended too. Schiff said Hemingway’s books were important early in his life. He said he still checks in with Hemingway’s writing to see “how complicated I’m making it compared to how simple he keeps it.” Hemingway D*ed in 1961.
