As a labor and delivery nurse, I want every expecting mom to understand the difference between cervical dilation, fetal station, and the urge to push. Because being 10 centimeters dilated and having a baby low enough to deliver are TWO very different things! Laboring down isn’t appropriate for everyone, and delayed pushing isn’t routinely recommended for all patients. Your baby’s heart rate, your epidural status, your urge to push, and your individual labor circumstances all matter. Knowledge is power, mama!
