“Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.” — Psalm 30:4 (KJV) Sometimes we need to stop looking at everything happening around us and remember just how great our God truly is! Psalm 30:4 is a beautiful invitation to lift our voices in praise and give thanks to the Lord. But notice something important about this scripture. It doesn’t simply tell us to praise God for the blessings He has given us. It tells us to give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness. What a powerful reminder! We often find ourselves thanking God for answered prayers, unexpected blessings, open doors, and the many ways He has provided for us. And we certainly should! Every good thing in our lives is another reason to praise Him. But our worship should go deeper than what God does for us. It should begin with who He is! God is holy. He is righteous. He is faithful. He is merciful. He is perfect in all His ways, and His goodness never changes. There is no one like Him! When we remember His holiness, we are reminded that the God we serve is far greater than anything this world can offer. He is not limited by our understanding, weakened by our circumstances, or shaken by the storms of life. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever! Think about how easily we can become distracted by the difficulties surrounding us. We become so focused on the things that are going wrong that we forget to remember everything that is right about our God. We see the mountains standing in our path, but forget the One who created them. We hear the noise of the storm, but forget the One who has authority over the wind and waves. Sometimes the best thing we can do in the middle of our struggles is remind ourselves of who God is! We may not understand why certain things happen. We may be waiting for an answer to prayer or walking through a season we never expected. But none of those circumstances change His holiness. He is still worthy of our worship when the answers don’t come. He is still worthy of our thanksgiving when the road becomes difficult. He is still worthy of our praise when we cannot see what tomorrow holds. And the more we remember His goodness, His faithfulness, and His holiness, the more reasons we discover to lift our voices in worship. Don’t let the struggles of today cause you to forget the faithfulness of the God who has carried you through every yesterday! Sometimes we need to look back and remember. Remember the times He made a way when there seemed to be no way. Remember the prayers He answered, the strength He provided, and the grace that sustained us when we thought we couldn’t take another step. And even when we cannot understand what God is doing, we can still trust who He is! Just as the waters continue to flow over the rocks, sometimes gently and sometimes with tremendous force, life brings seasons of peace and seasons of turbulence. But through every changing circumstance, the holiness and faithfulness of our God remain constant. Our praise should not rise and fall with the circumstances of our lives. It should flow from a heart that recognizes the greatness of the One we serve! And here’s something else we must remember: Thanksgiving is not just about remembering what God has done. It is also about recognizing that He is worthy of our worship simply because He is God! We don’t have to wait for another miracle to praise Him. We don’t have to wait for the mountain to move. We don’t have to wait for the storm to pass. We already have every reason to lift our voices and give Him glory! So today, whatever you may be facing, take a moment to turn your attention away from your circumstances and toward the Lord. Remember His goodness. Remember His mercy. Remember His faithfulness. And above all, remember His holiness! Let your praise be greater than your problems, your thanksgiving louder than your worries, and your worship a reflection of the God who is worthy of it all!
