the differences between Sadako from the original Ring (Ringu) and Samara from the 2002 American remake The original Japanese creation from Koji Suzuki’s novel series and the 1998 film Ringu. Sadako Yamamura is 19 years old when she is murdered and thrown into the well in the original Japanese continuity (Ringu) Samara Morgan is 12 years old when she is pushed into the well by her mother in the American adaptation (The Ring). This leaves a 7-year age difference between the two characters at their times of death, changing the dynamic from a vengeful young woman to a tragic, terrifying child spirit
