@guardian: “It is the wind of youth that rises," says 17-year-old French student and reporter Hippolyte. Hippolyte is one of hundreds of thousands of gen-Z protesters around the world, from Argentina to France to India, who have taken to the streets in recent weeks to demonstrate their discontent. Although each country's protest movement stems from different causes, the sense of anger and frustration about a system that the demonstrators feel desperately needs to be changed runs through them all. Young people told the Guardian about their fatigue and frustration with the cost of living, such as in Spain, where backlash to the death of the 87-year-old evicted pensioner Maricarmen sparked mass protests over housing costs. They expressed concern about governments that do not represent their interests, including in Albania where a summer of peaceful protests against the proposed development of a luxury resort along the southern coast has turned into civil disorder over rising education costs and corruption under the 13-year premiership of Edi Rama. And while many of the protests have been peaceful, some countries have seen tensions between demonstrators and police turn violent – drawing concerns about heavy-handed police responses and potential government crackdowns. France will deploy about 70,000 police around the country on Saturday in response to civil unrest, while Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, has toughened penalties for protest-related violence. Not the reaction I was expecting but if I’m being frank, I didn’t know what to expect either—this is new to me too. Why’re immigrant parents like this 😭 On a serious note, I had come home to surprise and celebrate both their birthdays and wanted to share this really big milestone that not only is profound to me and my career but to my families legacy. I am the first to not only crossover but to touch 7 figures in their life time, in their 20’s might I add. They are witnessing generational curses being broken in real time through their children and I’m sure it feels surreal to even process especially with the career they did not expect us to be in. They envisioned me becoming a dentist, owning practices — a 10 year plan… but God had other plans. As an immigrant child, being able to give back to our parents is one of the most fulfilling experiences you’ll never forget. This means something to me. In this generation where the opportunities to make money online is overly abundant, it can feel conditioned to downplay your success and compare yourself to others. However, when you don’t come from money, every milestone is a success and deserves to be celebrated, no matter how big or small. So don’t downplay it. Express gratitude for how far you’ve come and look forward to how far you can go, atleast that’s what I’m trying to tell myself! Being able to say I’ve touched over 7 figures in a year isn’t generational wealth but I’m on the right path. Don’t compare your first hour to someone else’s 10,000 hour. I hope my story, that I will continuously share, shows what’s possible. Continue to find the right systems, people, relentless determination and God willing faith to want more for yourself cause there is nothing you cannot do. You only live once, make it count 🫰🏼 Thank you to everyone who roots for me, prays for me, and most importantly, believes in me— I wouldn’t be here standing in answered prayers without you. I love you, dearly.🤎🤞🏻 —A
