correct Eskom supplied power to billed customers who applied for electricity. The number of billed customers weren't that much thus Eskom could keep up with the demand . now days the demand is greater and government should have build a power station in each province to cater for the demand , there are also too many illegal connections draining the power grid and the result is load shedding. I remember in apartheid days we applied for electricity and waited for over a year before they put in poles and cables in our area . The electricity inspectors ran a tight ship regular inspections and maintenance on power lines . The white inspectors or technicians were seen at the brown boxes doing what ever they did. There was no load shedding simply because the amount of customers weren't that big and Eskom could handle the demand

You can say EVKOM was the most advanced power supplying institution in the world. It's a fact. Now ESCOM is a symbol of failure, like the government that ran it into the ground. ESCOM is now known as EKSDOM.
