![🚨 Mikel Arteta on Gabriel’s injury scare: “When Gabriel went down, I was worried. Of course I was worried. We had seen him holding his leg, and the medical staff needed to assess him. At that moment, the most important thing was his condition. But I know Gabriel very well. Sometimes the problem with Gabriel is not convincing him to play. The problem is convincing him that he might need to stop. I remember speaking to him once after a training session. He had been arguing with one of the attackers because he’d lost a duel. I told him, ‘Gabi, it’s training. You don’t need to be so angry.’ He said, ‘Mister, if I accept losing here, why would I be angry when it happens in a match?’ And I thought about that answer for a long time. Because it explains a lot about him. He doesn’t have one mentality for training and another for matches. He doesn’t decide to become serious because we’re playing Manchester City or Liverpool. He approaches every opponent as somebody trying to take something from him. Today, when the medical staff were checking him, we were discussing what we might need to change. He noticed. He looked towards the bench, and I could see he wasn’t happy. Later, he told me, ‘Mister, I saw you preparing to replace me.’ I said, ‘Gabi, you were injured. What did you expect me to do?’ He said, ‘Wait for me.’ That’s Gabriel. But then he goes and scores, and suddenly everyone forgets the conversation about replacing him. I think people sometimes misunderstand what makes a great defender. Of course, you need physical qualities. You need to be strong, quick, good in the air, comfortable defending space. Gabriel has those qualities. But there’s something else. When the game becomes difficult, some players start looking around to see who’s going to take responsibility. Gabriel doesn’t look around. He believes it’s his responsibility. Today, he was dealing with a physical problem, we’d already asked a lot of him defensively, and then he still found a way to make a decisive contribution in the opposition’s box. Two hundred Premier League appearances. Twenty-one goals. Those numbers are impressive, especially for a central defender. But they don’t tell you how many times he’s protected a teammate, how many difficult situations he’s solved, or how much responsibility he’s accepted when we’ve needed him. I remember when he first arrived at Arsenal. He was a young defender coming into a team that was still trying to find its identity. Now, when you watch him, you can see how much he’s grown. He doesn’t wait for somebody else to set the standards anymore. He sets them himself. After the match, I congratulated him. He said, ‘Mister, you see? I told you I could continue.’ I told him, ‘Yes, Gabi. But next time, please let the medical staff make that decision.’ He smiled. I’m not sure he agreed with me. And that is probably the only thing about his performance today that I didn’t enjoy.” [ This is the source @ChinoUTD ]#arsenal #arsenalfc #afc #creatorsearchinsight #football](/video/cover/7700296129002491143.webp)
