@delbertray: Teachers are burning out trying to do it all, but a love of reading needs support at home, too. A parent, a child, and a book can make a lasting difference. Read together. Talk about the story. Make it a habit. Teachers need partners in learning—we can’t carry it alone. 📚❤️ #TeacherBurnout #SupportTeachers #ReadTogether

I used to read to my kids every night. I try with my granddaughter when she's over, but her attention span is max 2 minutes.

I 100% agree! I've read books to my son while he was in my womb til now (2 & half years old). He started reading words at 18 months old, and is currently at 1st grade level reading.

This was one of my favorite times of the day! Man it was great. And we read chapter books! The lion the witch and the wardrobe all Harry Potter books and earlier books were still long picture less or mostly picture less books. I spent probably at least an hour a night reading to them. Btw they were very much acedemic achivers. And I was just having fun!

So true! And teaching kids to read from an early age makes a difference, too. I was read to as a toddler and learned to read at five. I eventually earned a PhD, not that it’s the ultimate measure of success, but still!

And it’s also connection. I’ve read at least one book to my son every night since newborn. He’s almost 5 now and is starting to read…. Our nighttime reading is now: he reads 1 BOB book, then I read 2-3 chapters of a chapter book or comic, like 15 mins of reading. And on the rare occasions we get home super late because of a family function and I tell him we don’t have time for reading, he’d get super sad and upset. He told me it’s his favorite part of the day. ♥️

We read to my daughter and she’s now an amazing reader but struggles with math so we also do flash cards and workbooks to help with that.

No. Reading to children is one of the most valuable things parents can do, but research doesn't support it being the single biggest factor in academic achievement

A sad day for me when my son could read Harry Potter on his own. The end of our bedtime activity. He’s grown now and still reads all the time.

We read Every night to our kiddos cuz it was a good way to ease into the end of the day. We loved doing it. Tub, story and singing to them sent them to bed. 33 yr old PhD in computer science and engineering. 27 yr old double major finance and Spanish. But what I take the greatest joy in, we’re a close family and they are great members of society.
