@thetimes: Graduates overloaded with £50,000 of debt and still struggling to find a job should look away now. Affluent families are ensuring many thousands of students are leaving university without a penny of debt, official figures show. Overall, about one in twenty English students do not take a maintenance loan, or a loan for their tuition fees, currently £9,790 a year, according to a House of Commons briefing. Just under a third — equal to about 113,523 — do not take out a maintenance loan at Russell Group universities. #university #uni #universitystudent #student #studentdebt #studentloan #finance

Why would wealthy families take out a loan if they can afford to pay upfront? The Times has become a total joke

Obviously you don’t have debt if you never take a loan? What kind of journalism is that?

Well obviously families who can pay for private schools can pay for uni fees. Most private schools are more expensive than uni anyway

Thank goodness we have the Times to bring us this valuable information. What they are saying is that people who have family money, tend not to borrow money. That is an amazing insight. Keep up the good work!!😂

A standard loan is cheaper than a student loan. Parents are taking out loans.

Those who can least afford university are potentially paying the most for it, while those who can most afford it can pay the least.

Student loans are a tax on working class and girls. Girls are more likely to have debt because they will have children and earn less than boys ober their lifetime so a family is less likely to pay for a girl's education because the debt will be written off.

Wow, it's almost like the system is meant to punish us poor people so that we don't go to university!

Its increadibly onerous....designed not to be paid off...so 9% of your gross income above threshold for most of your working life. All grand till you try to pay a mortgage or raise a family😢😢

I’m not too sure what the story is trying to tell me is it that wealthy people don’t take out loans or is it that Poorer students take out loans? I don’t understand what the point of it is though so do we need to get the rich to sponsor the poor? Not sure what’s going on here
