@npr: A new study has found that sea life in the Gulf of Mexico declined dramatically after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010. Researchers say the BP oil spill is the most likely cause of a 63.5% drop in the number of fish in a deep region of the gulf and a 62% drop in shrimp and krill populations, both important food sources for marine life. Squid and octopus fell about 60%. The study says populations don’t seem to be recovering since the Deepwater Horizon spill. The rig explosion killed 11 workers and federal estimates say 5 million barrels of oil leaked into the gulf over several months. The study is published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Find “NPR News Now” wherever you listen to podcasts. I was studying this with my marine biology class I took last semester. We were going over the effects that happened 10 years later.

So why is BP not required to supply what is missing for the life to recover

I feel like a shutdown would be too easy on the owners. Companies like this should be forced to be owned by some state organization that specifically forces them to mitigate this disaster specifically and endlessly. Yes that means the CEOs should be imprisoned within their own companies forced to fix this forever. For how serious an existential threat this is to all of us. This type of punishment barely scratches the surface of what they deserve.

Well, because I live on the Gulf Coast, I’ll tell you the reason why because they won’t tell you all that disbursement that they used instead of cleaning up the oil that disbursement sunk it to the bottom and that’s why you couldn’t eat any of the seafood locally you still can’tbecause of it and I’ve lived here for 20 years but yet the government here says it’s OK but there’s people that’s been out in that water that were years after the BP incident and some of the places it was still floating. The oil was.
