My story begins in media res, that is, in the midst of my creations. I recently have been harvesting the seeds from my poetry book I self published last winter. It’s been a profound experience witnessing people reading my writing and finding meaning behind it. I love to think that my story is ever-evolving, with no beginning or end- I sit comfortable in the middle. This is how I explain my story, that it is entirely incomplete and constantly changing so I have gotten so far because I continue to be & create despite it all. I know I would not be where I am had I not experienced a spiritual awakening during the pandemic in 2020. This is where my artistry really took flight. I took a deep step inward- re-discovering parts of me that had been asleep for a long time. The way my life has gone thus far is the inspiration behind my art. It what has fueled my passion for creating. I live in my art & my story is a reflection of a blank page awaiting ink. I like to think the point of life is that it’s not meant to be smooth. We’re supposed to find balance among the rocky surfaces and the choppy waters. To struggle is to be a witness, and to be a witness is to truly live life through your experiences. I have found that in my struggles I have created deep and personal art. My struggles have been a significant part of my creativity as my art has become a way that expresses my pains in a transformative and productive way. The struggles, whatever they are in the moment, are there to mold me into the person that can withstand trials and come out the other side. I gain grit, and that fuels my art. I have many mediums that I work with. I like to dabble in photography and videography, I enjoy drawing, collaging, and paint. My main specialty, however, is writing. I have claimed throughout my life that I can write better than I can speak, and so writing is the art form that truly defines who I am. Thus far in my art journey, I am most proud of my poetry book, as it indicates my dedication to my creativity. It’s the proof of my existence, my small stamp on the world. I believe what sets me apart from others is my mind. It’s the most unique thing about me. I have thought so many things into existence, and that’s an amazing feeling to know something came from my own brain. As a child, I was very quiet and shy, a weird little girl with a mind full of worries. My interests changed with the seasons, but I spent a lot of time reading and imagining scenarios in my head that didn’t exist. I was very interested in storytelling, in imagery and visualization. That was me internally. Externally, at my core I always cared deeply for people’s feelings and was attuned to the emotions of others. My personality instinctually adapted to who I was around, so I would either be very vibrant or subdued, it would depend on my environment.
