I have never met myself. I'm in my 50s and I don't actually exist as a whole person.

Throw in growing up in a strict evangelical household and I’m just doomed to never have an original thought in my life 😭

Always struggled with "Who am I". I see myself as an amalgamation of "stuff" rather than something clear. All I know is that I never really feel comfortable in in this mold, this skin. And there ia always something that feels off. Especially after socialising.

something that comes with echoism that many don't consider is that we sometimes need to limit interactions or cut off contact with people we like because we morph into them when we spend too much time with them and while we like them, we don't like BEING them :/

My mother beat the autism out of me and then told me, at 8 yrs old, that I was the most selfish person she had ever met and that she loved me as a daughter but hated me as a person. I went on to marry a narcissist and spent 23 years being told I was unlovable and lucky to have him. I am 62 and have no fucking idea who I am or how to stick up for myself! I am trying, but damn!

I’ve given up. I can’t decipher anything accurately. I don’t emotionally connect to the things I need to connect to, I only understand them intellectually. I’m forced to constantly question reality. How am I ever supposed to be secure or comfortable living?

I'm ok if my identity is wrapped up in taking care of others. realizing I can keep my world as big or as small as I want was probably my mind fixer in that area

And it's worse for girls and women. Society demands us to act a certain way, the way we were brought up and weaponized against us.

Disappear in order to stay loved…? Or stay safe? 🤔 I think my version of the echoing were fairly low effort. I just muted myself in all aspects and stayed at my seat at the back of the class. To this day I find it hard to believe that I am interesting in any way, probably because I spent so much of my childhood trying to be as uninteresting as possible 😓

Yeah, but how do you just unmask? How do you stop thinking of others first?

I'm 50 and I'm still trying to manage it. Mind you i didn't realize I was Audhd until I hit perimenopause and I spent time alone. I'm not in a relationship and I'm a empty nester. Having no one to take care of other then myself seemed to take a toll on me. My ex was a narcissist so healing from that alone was hard. Speaking my mind and avocating for myself is a learning process.

Recently learned I wasn’t late diagnosed. I just wasn’t told. Apparently I was diagnosed at four was never told I was autistic. Only knew that I was dyslexic spent most of my life thinking I was the problem.

I became the quiet mouse that everybody forgot/ didn't see. I once was left in a amusement park on a school trip, my parents had to come and get me cods the bus (the teachers) forgot to count us before they left. And my own parents have often forgot they brought me with them and left without me, so the people we were visiting had to call them and ask them to come and get me, or drive me home. Doesn't really make a kid feel loved. Looking through my life, I often feel like I'm invisible like I don't really matter much, most people don't like me and get tired of being around me, I'm always making sure everyone is getting what they need, but nobody knows or even thinks of me or what I need. I never feel wanted or important to anyone, not even my husband, even though I know he loves me.

Ooh it has a name!! In my late 30s when a psychologist finally realized I had PTSD I went through a struggle of is my whole personality a trauma response. I always could say what I don't want but not what I do.
