Literally a woman (Lucille Ball) made sure Star Trek survived past the original show. Spirk shippers created fandom as we know it. A woman imagined and spearheaded the creation of AO3. Women are responsible for the preservation of fandom. Great take!!

ive never even CONSIDERED straight men writing fanfiction/drawing fanart, and theres much more content of it than the media itself. POWERSCALERS on the other hand, are typically male and their whole gig is dragging others out of the fandom

women and queer people are more likely to create art and make transformative content/work about the fandom which keeps it alive

The anime dudebros get super upset when we make their goats kiss lol. Its not a real problem until if/when it crosses over into how real people are treated, though

when they get angry over ships and stuff like that, it just makes me laugh lmaooo cuz i’d rather be someone involved in innocent shipping culture than be someone who does nothing but powerscaling and calling characters bums all day

Nah…I have to disagree. I think any people can run a fandom or keep a franchise alive. Dragon ball fans are mostly men,and yet right now it’s getting a remake of a series that came out a decade ago. Is it because of queer people and women? No,it’s just men who enjoy the series and by or watch products from said series. Seriously db franchise is so wealthy because men gamble their money on dragon ball legends or dokkan battle…I’m fp2 so I can’t relate. Now do I believe there are fandoms they carry? Absolutely. Sonic and fnaf comes to mind instantly. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them let’s be honest and I thank them…but do I think it applies to ALL fandoms? Do bronies not exist bruh? Honestly? I should’ve straight up mentioned cause they kinda are a walking example that you don’t need them, even if they are the rain to the soil,to carry every fanbase. I think it just depends on the people. Probably already mentioned it,but mouth washings fanbase is kinda death. Theirs people but clearly it isn’t as popular anymore. But tf2? Hasn’t gotten an update and it’s still kickin. But here’s the thing, from what I’ve heard they’re pretty open and accepting…I think. But if it is true, then maybe that’s why tf2 fanbase is still alive but a fanbase that’s just filled with dudebros die. And I wanna clarify that I do think it is impressive and I don’t wanna dismiss their feats, women and queer people do lowkey keep many fanbases alive and the ones you listed I don’t think were misses. But,they aren’t gods! Their power can be matched to a equal footing as clearly shown

I agree with everything you said, but I just want to say it’s a little unfair to say that women have a huge issue with oversexualizing male characters. I’m not saying we don’t do it, but it’s a bit unfair to frame it as if this issue is any worse than it is among men. I don’t think you meant to frame it that way, but I think it could be misinterpreted. Because women are frequently treated as just the pretty side character and are sexualized pretty much from jump in lots of different media even before a fandom is establish. It’s most obvious in anime, but a male doesn’t inherently have to framed sexually to gain that kind of fandom, whereas as a female character with often be given plenty of fanservice shots as a given.

Sailor Moon is almost always neglected in the convo of the big anime boom in the west. It’s never taken as seriously as Naruto, Pokémon and dragon ball because the fan base was primarily little girls
