So as a parent, you don’t sit down when they are with you?

I worked at two daycares where the requirement was to be standing all day, too.

Makes absolutely no sense if you’ve ever seen a small child. They’re…smaller? You really can’t interact with them well while standing. I was often PRAISED for how much time I spent sitting—I was on the floor with the kids up in my grill! 😂Not everyone can sit on the ground much, but the same principle applies whatever the position.

My daycare just took our adult chairs away. They said if we need to sit we can be on the floor with the kids. Tell that to my arthritis guys 🙄

If I'm standing all day, they are interacting with my kneecaps. Sitting puts me on their level so we can have meaningful interactions during activities. Does that mean I'm sitting on my butt all day? No! my step count would beg to differ! care to compare?

I use to teach preschool and the district came in and took out the teachers desk and any adult sized chairs.

Why are some people so obsessed with people standing at work. Independent play is SO IMPORTANT.

she was also at their eye level, which does not make her intimidating to them, which makes her approachable to them, which is what all preschool teachers and toddler teachers are taught

Plus, isn’t it supposed to be better to be down closer to their level at times? So you aren’t looming over them all the time?

you also have to do observations to see what the kids know, what the need help with, etc.

My first center wanted us up and moving. Do you know how hard that is in a room full of one year olds? Luckily I switched and I’m a PreK teacher at a center that encourages independent, child led activities which lets me be able to sit from time to time

Don’t parents sit down while supervising and caring for their children? Like that’s an unreasonable expectation

sitting down while supervising looks much better from the child's perspective, which is the only perspective that matters. they are small and getting level with them makes you feel much more approachable for when they DO want to involve an adult in their play or just need help. i notice that my kids come to me more often if i am at their level supervising vs when i am standing and supervising, bc to them it doesn't look like i am rlly engaged in observing in their activities, but more like my gaze is above them and i am detached. idgaf what it looks like to a parent, im there for the kids first and foremost.
