🚨 Pep Guardiola Pep Guardiola on Vincent Kompany: 🗣️ Vincent was my captain. And more than that… he was someone I trusted completely. When I arrived at Manchester City, Vinny was already a legend. But his body was suffering. The injuries were serious. So we managed him carefully. Sometimes he played only once a week. I saved him for the biggest games because when the pressure was highest, I knew he would not fail. In the dressing room, he was my extension. When there were problems, when players needed to understand the idea, when the atmosphere was not right… I went to Vinny. He understood the squad better than anyone. I changed the way he played. He was a strong, aggressive centre-back. I asked him to step out with the ball, to control the space, to play with courage. And he did it. He adapted. That is not easy for a player of his age and status. And then there was that night against Leicester. We needed the win. The game was difficult. In the 70th minute he took the ball 30 yards from goal… and I started shouting from the bench: “No, Vinny! Don’t shoot! Pass the ball! Agüero was shouting the same. Sterling was holding his head. Nobody wanted him to shoot. He ignored all of us. And he scored one of the most important goals in the history of this club. After the game I was laughing, but also relieved. I told him I had zero confidence in that shot. And he answered perfectly: “I haven’t come this far in my career to have young players - or a manager - tell me when I can and cannot shoot. That was Vinny. A leader. A warrior. And one of the most important captains I have ever had.#mancity #football #manchesterunitedfans #fanbase #semu - @gamereactions1
