@joeyaltstudio: The answer: it’s hard to tell if it stays. The city’s own coastal engineers wrote in September that nourished sand “can be rapidly eroded during another major swell.” The city calls the dredge short-term support. The backup is a $6.8 million rock wall buried under dunes. It’s unfunded past the design money, 2027 at the earliest, and it can only be built if the sand is already gone. History isn’t on the sand’s side. 3 million cubic yards pumped in during the 1940s. Fills in 1979, the 80s, the early 90s. A fake reef. Kelp beds. All of it washed away or didn’t work. The city has been fighting this beach for 80 years and the beach keeps winning. So the next couple of months decide it. If the November and December king tides take this sand, we’re back to the bulkhead and the sandbags, with the rock wall still on paper. If the sand holds through January, the city bought itself time to build something permanent. I want to be wrong about this. What I saw this morning was good work. I just don’t know if the ocean is going to let it stay. If this was your call: more sand every year, the rock wall now, or something else? 👇

I know the homeowners whose houses are behind the oceanfront houses can’t wait for those to fall down so they can have oceanfront properties😂

It looks like the peninsula is about 100 yards wide and 5 feet above sea level. And they built houses 3 feet apart. Let nature have a go at it.

Orrrrr people stop living there, we remediate the land and it becomes an effective barrier for future flooding and storm surges

It appears the oceans wants to reclaim the peninsula (so to say). Does that mean the city will treat it like LAX did with Playa del Rey - knocking down all the homes
