I'm 52, I didn't realise I was autistic until my son was diagnosed 6 years ago, I therefore went through life unsupported, as a result I suffered with mental health issues, low self esteem, self harming behaviours and left school with little education, not because I'm not intelligent but I just couldn't learn in the way I was being taught, I still struggle as an adult with social difficulties, meltdowns and shutdowns, there is no such thing as mild autism, I've had the heartache of watching my son go through similar struggles, though thankfully he is now very well supported by his school, but he still finds life very challenging ❤️
