I used to live on a converted barge. It’s very beautiful, but it comes with far more disadvantages than living on solid ground. Even if a barge never sails, it must still undergo technical inspections. It also has to be taken into dry dock, and during that period, you cannot live on board. Another thing is that life on a barge is wonderful when you’re on waterways that are no longer accessible to commercial transport barges. But I can assure you that constantly rocking from side to side every half hour is anything but enjoyable! Then there’s mooring. When another barge parks alongside yours, you suddenly lose much of your privacy because you become the passageway for your neighbours. These are the reasons why I eventually left life on the water. It looks beautiful, but living that way every day is a completely different story!

I lived alone on a barge on the canal. Unfortunately I got very sick and had to remain in bed for nearly two weeks! There was a very strong storm and unknown to me my barge became loose and when I recovered I was no longer on a canal in Cheshire, I woke up to find myself on the river Amazon in Brazil!

Nice boat but I don’t like the layout of 2 cubby hole bedrooms, maybe turn them into a double bedroom, that way you have 2 double spacious bedrooms, but Lovely boat.

🥞 Thin Pancakes recipe Ingredients * 2 large eggs * 1½ cups (360 ml) milk * 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour * 1 tablespoon sugar * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * ¼ teaspoon salt * 2 tablespoons melted butter * ½ cup (120 ml) water * Extra butter or neutral oil for cooking Instructions 1. Prepare the batter: Crack the eggs into a large mixing bowl and whisk them until the yolks and whites are fully combined. 2. Add the liquid: Pour in the milk and water, then add the sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk everything together. 3. Add the flour: Slowly add the flour while continuously whisking. Adding it gradually helps prevent lumps from forming. 4. Add the butter: Pour in the melted butter and whisk until the batter is smooth. 5. Check the consistency: The batter should be thin and fairly runny, much thinner than regular pancake batter. If it looks too thick, add another splash of milk or water. 6. Rest the batter: Let the batter sit for about 10–15 minutes. This allows the flour to hydrate and makes the pancakes easier to cook without tearing. 7. Heat the pan: Place a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Lightly grease it with a small amount of butter or oil. 8. Pour the batter: Once the pan is hot, pour in a small ladleful of batter. Immediately tilt and rotate the pan so the batter spreads into a very thin, even layer. 9. Cook the first side: Let it cook for around 30–60 seconds. The edges should begin to look dry and slightly golden, while the top should no longer look completely wet. 10. Flip: Carefully loosen the edges with a spatula, then flip the pancake. Cook the second side for approximately 15–30 seconds. 11. Remove and repeat: Transfer the pancake to a plate and continue cooking until all the batter is used. Lightly grease the pan again whenever necessary. 12. Keep them soft: Stack the finished pancakes on top of each other and cover them with a clean plate or kitchen towel. The trapped steam will help keep them soft and flexible. 🍫 Filling ideas * Nutella or chocolate spread * Strawberry or raspberry jam * Banana + chocolate * Peanut butter + honey * Cinnamon + sugar * Fresh berries + whipped cream * Caramel + sliced bananas * Powdered sugar + fruit 🔥 Tips for REALLY thin pancakes * Use less batter: A smaller amount spreads much more easily. * Swirl immediately: Don’t wait for the batter to start cooking before spreading it. * Keep the pan hot: If the pan is too cool, the batter won’t spread properly and the pancake can become gummy. * Don’t over-grease the pan: Too much butter/oil can make the batter slide around instead of forming an even layer. * Adjust the batter: If your pancakes keep coming out thick, add a little more milk or water until the batter flows easily from the ladle. This should give you thin, soft, flexible pancakes with lightly golden edges. 🥞🔥
