@scriptinmotion: The "tears in rain" monologue manages to encapsulate the deep, existential themes at the core of Blade Runner, all while remaining poetic and emotionally resonant in just a few lines. What makes it even more remarkable is that Rutger Hauer, who sadly passed away in 2019, played a crucial role in shaping its final form. The original script, written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, did include the final monologue. However, as Hauer explained to Radio Times, he felt that many scripts were overwritten. So, he took it upon himself to refine and shorten Roy Batty’s big moment. As he revealed in 2015: "𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨, '𝘎𝘰𝘥𝘥𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘐 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝟥𝟢𝟢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.' 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘙𝘪𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥, '𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘩, 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵. 𝘋𝘪𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦.' "Man has made his match… now it’s his problem." saiwrosfedoul0 :

Ford: “Nice ad-lib, pal. But the script says you’re supposed to hold my eyes like a HYPNOTIST!”

Richard Marks :

This short scene made this version of Blade Runner Great, not anything the Star did through the rest of the movie. Though Vangelis music added a lot to the feeling of the future. Rutger was magnificent.

Got booted :

A true fact about this scene, is that Rutger created some of his own script at the time of filming to make it more personal and probably one of the most famous lines and film script to date. “ disappeared like tears in the rain” absolutely resounding.

Nexus-6 :

The best line ever in a film not just sci fi. I could watch this over and over. And improvised. Rutger was a genius actor. And the spinner. Still see visions in my head when driving my car and it says purge on the screen. Beautiful

BkOEII :

Damn great movie
