I grew up in a deeply homophobic and misogynistic society where queer words were used as insults, and every child grew up learning to use them. I was homophobic too, not because I hated people loving each other, but because I was taught to be. I still remember falling for a girl in grade 7, crying myself to sleep and praying to become a boy the next morning just so I could be with her. I didn’t even understand why I felt that way. It took me eight years to realize what those feelings meant. Even now, despite knowing I love women too, internalized homophobia and misogyny make it hard for me to imagine being with one. Sometimes I wonder who I could’ve been and who I could’ve loved if society had never taught me to hate what I felt.

OR they are jealous of not receiving the same kind of love that the queer community have. Same-sex relationship always have more depth than a heterosexual one. Whether it's the way love is expressed or even emotional intelligence.

I only used to be homophobic cuz I have a homophobic family and was super in denial and thought that if I gaslit myself into hating it it would go away 😭 every single time I said something homophobic the guilt and uncomfortable feeling would keep me up for weeks
