Jesus says to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind and then later they say, "What does it mean to love the Lord?" It means to follow my commandments. To follow his commandments is to show love. If you don't follow his commandments then you don't love him and you are not following the number one commandment he's asking you to follow.
Eternal security: throughout the Bible is riddled with what-if statements. Unfortunately I wish those scriptures weren't there because we could all just agree: one saved, doubly saved. I've been down the rabbit hole of all of it and I truly believe that obedience is what keeps you remaining in Jesus.
I know so many Christians that are hardcore Christians. They go to church, they sing, they pray. Tears of joy. I've seen them in middle school and high school, out loud, ask for Jesus to save them. I know 100% at one point they were saved but then they have years, if not a decade, of absolute disgustingness: cheating on their spouse, doing drugs, going to the bar all the time, in jail, cussing at Christians.
I know we all want to lean on the grace thing, saying that Jesus knows our sin nature. Of course if we talk trash to other people, do all this sinning, it's okay because he knows our sin nature and he'll forgive us. Even if you think you're not condoning a license to sin, you 100% are condoning a license to sin.
