To be fair to the parent, they did tell the child not to touch the dog multiple times, but they physically stepped in too late. Which is way better than what most parents do.

people who are saying "that was rude" need to realize that if the child were going up to any other dog, that could've ended badly. that's why asking is an important thing, you don't know if the dog is aggressive, or a service dog, etc. always teach ur children the importance of consent, communication AND awareness even from a young age.

As a parent I appreciate the reinforcement of needing to ask but also as a parent I would never let my kid get that close. this is one of those times we dont wanna fafo at the expense of our kid or the dog.

might be a hot take but I personally I will never let a kid pet my dog that doesn’t have a parent around supervising them appropriately or doesn’t know how to appropriately ask to pet a dog. Cause at the end of the day if my dog reacts and bites a kid I have to deal with the consequences. Sorry not sorry. 🤷♀️

It’s good manners to ask but if your dog will attack a kid for being too close then ur dog shouldn’t be on the street. Asking is something you do out of politeness not out of safety
