All he said was people are not being financially literate. They are pricing their costumers based on their bills instead of building a clientele. He didnt say stylists were meant to be broke he said the expectation of making money like a doctor but not putting the work in is delusional and is exactly why Ulta is getting the clients now.

This is why after 30 years… I niched down and became super selective with my clientele… AND I pivoted to healthcare. And when you know the history of the hair care industry… it always was done in the US by black people! I’m a barber stylist but 200 years ago I would have been called a “Barber Surgeon” 💈 iykyk

Idk I think we gotta remember we watch sew in’s to go from $50-100 to +$1000 braids $150 to +$800 now (while in a inflation) I don’t complain I just won’t go but some of these prices are insane

I don’t understand the discourse of all this at all! Telling a stylist what they should charge for any service is ridiculous, because y’all can do your own hair for FREE! But nooooo you want to come to a stylist and tell them what they should charge to do your hair, like do you can do it for free sis!🤷🏾♀️It’s plenty of free online tutorials so why even argue diy it babes. I guarantee if they were to be behind the chair and really see what all goes into the craft and how much hair ppl be having they wouldn’t do it for no $50-$60 either.

I understand both sides. There are hairstylist who just have that it factor (license or no license) and deserve to be paid top $$, because they can do tf out of some hair. However every hairstylist cannot charge top tier prices because every hairstylist doesn’t have top tier work. I think it’s more about stylists prices reflecting the work that they produce. There are so many C-D level stylist trying to charge A-B stylist level prices and it just doesn’t make sense.
