@arya.explainss: A sea the size of a country vanished in 50 years — and one dam is bringing part of it back. 🌊 In 1960 the Aral Sea was the fourth-largest lake on Earth: 68,000 km² of water in the middle of a desert. The Soviet Union diverted its two rivers to grow cotton — and by 2014, the eastern basin was completely dry. Fishing towns like Moynaq were stranded in a desert. Ships rust where water used to be. Then the twist: in 2005 Kazakhstan built the Kokaral Dam. The northern sea rose 12 metres. The fish came back. The south is still a desert.
