Satellites orbiting the earth look strange down for the clearest picture. So a picture taken from a satellite over Australia would show images right side up like anywhere else. Now if a satellite above the northern hemisphere took a picture at an angle to view something in the southern hemisphere, it would look upside down and skewed because of the angle. No one would pay millions of dollars to put a satellite in orbit to just take bad pictures, they are designed to look straight down for clear detailed pictures.

satellites with cameras are pointed straight down. you would need to aim at the horizon through the thickest part of the atmosphere.

I'm not understanding why people don't understand this. If you're in space, you can rotate your body and what was the top, is not the top. Means there's no north or south automatically, you'd have to identify where you are in relation with the globe. But from the ground, the entire surface is right side up.

The basic answer is because there is no up/down, east/west when you are in space. You only know where all that is because you have the reference of the continents to refer to. If Earth was a 100% planet of water and you were traveling around randomly in space and came across water earth, you wouldn't know which pole was north or south.

Down is the direction things go when you drop them, whether you are in Australia or the U.S. things drop towards the ground, really towards the center of earth’s mass. If Australians are up side down then they are standing on their heads but things still fall to earth.

You are correct, however current ptechnology does not place a camera far enough away from earth to get that shot of earth with the zoom capability to close in on buildings from the side. Perhaps when we go back to the moon you can ask Elon to create a zoom lense to get this upside down shot of buildings. Good luck!

there is no upside down. its our prospective. if ur standing at the South pole. ur still upright because everything is pulled to the center of the earth. its a man made thing to think north is up. there is no direction in space. North does not mean up. we think North is up because all the countries that discovered everything happened to be on the north
