A new Zillow and Thumbtack report finds hidden homeownership costs have surged nearly 32% over the past five years, with the typical homeowner now paying $16,566 annually for maintenance, insurance and property taxes. Homeowners insurance has seen the sharpest increase, jumping 54% in five years, while maintenance costs have climbed 32%. And depending on where you live, the increases are even steeper.
