@bentalksmoney: The tax on inheriting mum and dad's super Is there a death tax on super in Australia? When super is left to adult children, the taxable part of the balance can be taxed at up to 32% once the Medicare levy is added. With a withdrawal and recontribution strategy, retired parents take money out with no tax and put it straight back in as an after-tax contribution, so the taxable part becomes the tax-free part. General information only, not financial advice.
It’s impossible to entirely remove a taxable component unless your super totals less than $390,000. You can reduce it but you can’t eliminate it. If you know you are going to die, unless you want to ensure who your beneficiaries are without any chance of dispute, the better strategy is to withdraw all your super to avoid the super death tax.

so genuine question is it best to withdraw first then recontribute or if you can contribute do the contribution first eg take 390,000 out of the offset account put it into the super then recombine the super to pension fund and withdraw the 390k back out. or doesn’t it matrer

All of those whinging “but it’s already been taxed” - the component called taxable untaxed is self explanatory. Untaxed = hasn’t been taxed. That component will attract the highest rate of tax for that reason.

We are making sure our taxable capital moo ent is reduced iver the next 10 years so we can leave super (what’s left anyway) tax free.
