According to her family, Rosa was in the passenger seat, her partner was driving, and her children, ages 2 and 5, were in the back. The children were not physically injured but witnessed the shooting. “It’s hard for them because they saw everything,” her sister, Sonia Hernandez, told WGN. She said the children were frightened and crying. Relatives now play recorded messages from them in Rosa’s hospital room. The family suspects road rage. Alderman Raymond Lopez said the confrontation may have continued for several blocks before the shooting. However, police have not publicly established what triggered the attack. Road rage remains a suspected circumstance, not a confirmed motive. Sonia said Rosa suffered severe brain damage, leaving questions about her future mobility and ability to speak.
