so as a kid I didn't know that you could equip keychains or different items. so I played all the way to this moment using only the kingdom key and leveling up to around level 80. I was well over 100 hours of gameplay so when this moment happened I thought it was the end of the game. I beat riku ansem. I saved kairi. I saved the princesses. I was crying my eyes out. then all of a sudden im a little shadow heartless 😂😂😂 I was so confused. I then got the strategy guide at the time and learned oh wait you can equip stuff. 😂😂😂

I don't understand how ppl call this a kids game I get it but I never saw the characters as kids stuff I took it really seriously for some reason and the combat is not easy. there's tons of exploration and back then being able to see Aeris and the gang was kind of the most needed. I think it's beautifully made especially how it can combine everything it does

one thing I never appreciated as a kid was the friendship arc for Sora and Donald. They did not like each other for half the game. Donald choosing Sora over the key was a big moment for their friendship. But Donalds reaction here shows how much they have grown as friends through this journey.

I remember playing this the first time in 2002. Really liked it up to this point but this is where I fell in love with this game. The seriousness of the scene, the sacrifice, the music, the surprise, the sadness, it all just hit different especially for a “kids” game.
