@aubreymatthesius: Everyone who’s had a baby is nervous about how their marriage will do through the stress of a postpartum season. If you put on a lens of Grace, or unamenable, and look for ways to serve one another, your marriage is going to thrive! If you’re pregnant, I highly suggest the both of you listen to this video before the baby arrives and talk these things through! #newmom #youngmom #pregnancy #postpartum #firsttimemom
Naw, mom’s exhaustion is way more intense. Dad is tired, sure, but he ain’t tired and leaking lochia and with blistered nipples and the myriad of other physical healing issues women have. The rest, fine lol. But I’m 💀 on that hill, bc it’s just the truth.

The best advice I have heard is: “your marriage involves you, but is not primarily about you. Your marriage involves happiness, but does not revolve around happiness.” For us - what worked was taking newborn overnight shifts. I took 7pm-2am. I breastfed and took full care of baby while hubby slept. Then he took 2am-7am shift with baby, pumped bottle or formula it didn’t matter - I was out of the picture. It allowed for bonding time for them too. During this time: I slept in a guest room or couch with ear plugs: no interruptions, just sleep, and I pumped once during this time. But this way: both of us were guaranteed a 5hr stretch of sleep regardless of how baby was sleeping.

The lens of grace line is beautiful. Looking for ways to serve one another instead of keeping score is exactly how a marriage thrives in that season.

This is all great advice. I would also add that newborns are very portable and you can bring them on dates if that helps ease your nerves

I thank my partner all the time and he tells me “why are you thanking me for looking after my own son? We’re in this together, doing this and learning together. We’re a team” I appreciate everything he does!!

I haven’t had babies yet, but we’re talking about it, and you’re giving me advice and perspective I haven’t considered because most advice isn’t like this. I really love your approach to parenting together x

I took the first 6 months of maternity and my fiance took the next 6 months. Then our son started private nursery at 12 months so we can both work full time and build careers. wouldnt have it any other way.
