@deadeye_outdoors: That doe locks eyes with you, lifts her front foot, and STOMPS. Are you busted—or does she just know something isn’t right? 🦌👀 A foot stomp is part of a whitetail’s alarm behavior, but it doesn’t automatically mean the deer has identified you as a hunter. It may have noticed movement, heard something unfamiliar, or spotted a shape that doesn’t belong. Now you’re in the staring contest every deer hunter knows. Stomping and head movements may help provoke a reaction from whatever caught its attention. Your next movement could give it the confirmation it’s looking for. And that display isn’t just between you and one deer. Nearby deer can notice the warning and become alert without ever detecting the original disturbance. Sometimes the encounter ends with a sharp blow and a white tail disappearing through the timber. Sometimes the deer settles down. Others leave without giving you much warning at all. There’s no reliable countdown—and staying still offers no guarantee. Watch the whole animal: ears, head, posture, and tail. The hoof is only part of the message. Ever had a doe stomp at you forever, then go right back to feeding? Or did she blow the whole woods up? 👇 #DeadeyeOutdoors #DeerHunting #WhitetailDeer #DeerBehavior #HuntingKnowledge
