@santoshdsabnis: A $6.5 MILLION BRIDGE. WOULD YOU MANAGE YOUR MONEY THIS WAY? Placentia’s Golden Avenue Bridge is nearly complete. I appreciate the hard work of the City staff and contractors who made it happen. But after reviewing the City’s own records, I have serious questions about how our money was managed. Here’s what I found: • Original estimated project cost: $6.04 million. • Revised estimated cost: $6.49 million. • Increase: $449,573. • Eleven utility providers were involved, and utility relocation problems contributed to delays and additional costs. • Measure U funding allocated to this project increased to $1.31 million. Meanwhile, Placentia approved $1.46 million in budget cuts. Yes, these are different funding sources. But every dollar has an opportunity cost. Here’s what bothers me. When did the City know the utility relocation was becoming a problem? Who was responsible for managing that risk? What alternatives were considered before costs increased? And who is planning for the bridge’s maintenance over the next 20 or 30 years? I’ve spent more than 20 years managing complex projects, budgets, and vendors. Problems happen. That’s precisely why we plan for risks, track costs, and intervene before small problems become expensive ones. And this isn’t just about one bridge. I’ve spent the past year examining Placentia’s contracts, spending decisions, street conditions, and budget. The same concern keeps coming back: Are we challenging spending decisions early enough, or simply approving amendments after the money is committed? Residents deserve more than a ribbon-cutting ceremony. They deserve to know how their money was spent and whether we got the best possible value. That’s why I’m running for Placentia City Council District 2. BID CONTRACTS. FIX STREETS. SHOW THE MONEY. I’ve published my findings, the supporting records, and five specific management requirements I would bring to City Hall. Read the full investigation and decide for yourself: https://santoshsabnis.com/placentia/pulse/placentia-golden-avenue-bridge I’m Santosh Sabnis, 2 on your ballot. My question to you: Would you manage your own money this way? #placentiacalifornia #Placentia #citycouncil #placentiabuzz #taxpayers
