On October 24, 2005, Rosa Parks died at the age of 92 in Detroit, Michigan. She is often remembered simply as the woman who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus, but her life and activism were far more extensive than that single moment. Parks had spent years challenging racial injustice before December 1, 1955, and continued working for civil rights long after the Montgomery Bus Boycott ended. Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1913 and grew up under the system of Jim Crow segregation. In 1943, she became active in the Montgomery branch of the NAACP and eventually served as its secretary. She investigated racial violence, worked to register Black voters, and documented cases of injustice. Her experience gave her a clear understanding of the legal and social structures that restricted Black life in the segregated South. Her arrest on December 1, 1955, came after she refused to surrender her seat to a white passenger when ordered to do so under Montgomery's segregation rules. Her arrest helped ignite the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a massive protest that lasted more than a year and became a major turning point in the modern Civil Rights Movement. The boycott helped bring national attention to segregation and elevated the leadership of figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. Parks later moved to Detroit, where she continued her activism, working for Congressman John Conyers and supporting efforts for racial and economic justice. She received the Congressional Gold Medal in 1999, one of the highest civilian honors in the United States. Rosa Parks should therefore be remembered not simply as someone who was tired and refused to move. She was an experienced activist who made a deliberate decision to challenge an unjust system, and her courage became part of a much larger movement that had been building for decades. #BlackHistory #RosaParks #CivilRights #deadanniversary #civilrightsactivist - @syedshiroz1924
