Try changing the wording of the questions to “what made you laugh today?” or “what did you learn that shocked you?” The answers come easier when the prompt is asking for more than just the “what did you do?”

My son's first day of prek he opened the doors to the cafeteria leading outside and got a few feet away before the teacher's caught him. And when I asked him, how school was, and if anything happened, he said, no, like he didn't plan a whole escape at lunch
