you don't have to keep supporting the child as long as the child goes to college

My husband got a check from his dad shortly after his mom died. From his back child support. probably only because he paid before she died. It was only like a thousand so probably SS or taxes. He owed like 40k, but after she died that debt went away.

I’m 34 now, my father still owes at least $15k… and that could be less than what he actually owes, he asked me to ask my mom to stop it🤣🤣 sorry, she raised me without you, so I’m not asking her to do nothing🤣

I’ve heard conflicting information on this one and maybe it’s something that varies state by state, but what happens to child support orders when the parent paying is in prison? Would love if you could answer and just shed some light on if my deadbeat dad owed for that time still or if it was paused while incarcerated.

Eww do they really think that? The kid is grown so it’s gone? Each payment owed is a judgment that accrues interest. Statute of limitations on child support?!!!! That’s wild. NEVER. It’s not a criminal offense even though they are a criminal for not paying lmao 😆

I signed away my right to arrears when my child turned 18 because I was just so tired of being in and out of court.

My dad owed 108k by the time I turned 18 at 20 we signed paperwork to cancel all child support ( I did it because he had two more daughters and was a fantastic dad to them) and he needed his license to work.

I had a friend who was in recovery after a LONGGGGGGGG string of addiction and get son was 27 when she finally got sober and was paying almost $1k/month. She owed A LOT of arrears because unfornuately her addiction took her out of his life for a long time

Texas just made a new law a couple years ago, your arrears are FOREVER. A judge can't forgive it, the custodial parent can't forgive it, it never goes away, it cannot be reduced or forgiven.
