I genuinely feel like Inside Out would really resonate with her right now. Changes are hard at every age, you guys have been so strong for them. Listening is an amazing step, maybe that’s all you can do at this moment but it does matter and help.

If you can take a picture of her room and print it off for her to hold. It might really help her be able to really “hold on” to that something special she can’t put a finger on. 🙂

At twelve I told my mom I wanted to stop getting older. It wasn’t depression, just a sense that my childhood was going to be over.

It’s nostalgia, but it’s her first real loss and the loss of something she loves and the realization that things are not always permanent. It’s hard.

you guys are so.. gentle with your kids. when we moved, which we did alot, it was just something that Happened to me, not anything someone sat with me on.

It’s more than just moving too though. When you move you generally don’t have to get rid of so much stuff, ya know? This is bigger than just a move. It’s a huge loss in a lot of ways. I think you all are handling it very well, and I hope the transition is as smooth as it can be.

I remember feeling weird about turning 10 & realizing I was never gonna be in single digits of age again. At the time it felt like a huge life transition. I'd forgotten it until this video.

Highly recommend getting her a Polaroid camera. I got one as a kid and I have a shoebox full of tangible pictures of the different houses I’ve lived in and certain things I’ve gotten rid of.

Therapy is always a good idea- and art therapy can help when you can’t verbalize what’s going on. And idk why but there’s just something about autumn that provokes nostalgia.

Your kids are lucky that you and “Susan” not only recognize that they could have feelings, but also that you allow them to express it. 🥰🥰

Listening to you and Momchats process this incredibly challenging life event is healing a part of my heart that holds my volatile childhood. The way you both meet your kids where they are, in an inquisitive way, with encouragement and patience consistently...🥹. They will remember the love, safety, and feeling of true acceptance you provided throughout their lives. The rest is ancillary. Remember to give yourselves the grace you give your kids. You're both doing above and beyond your best.

Man, this type of nostalgia has been hitting me hard this week. I had rotator cuff surgery last week and now I am limited in everything I do. My world has gotten extremely small. So of course, my mind starts doom-scrolling on itself and all I that I currently cannot do, when I realized that in ten years I will have outlived my father by two years. He passed from ALS and we realized just how inaccessible life really is for the disabled.
What a major bucket of ice to pout over myself.

I couldn't imagine this at her age. I moved out of my parents house at 43 after they both passed. Life circumstances as well as my parents health both kept me home. I felt a lot of the same feelings I am sure she is experiencing, but I imagine they are a lot more intense for her.

My daughter (11) literally JUST had this moment the other day! We didn't just move though. We've been in what we're hoping to be our forever home after many, many military moves. But we've been talking a lot about middle school and how it'll be different/exciting for her. She told me she doesn't want to leave her elementary school & grow up 😢 I understand. She has an older brother who is in his first year of HS & we've been talking to him a lot about being more responsible & getting on him more about grades & when hes going to be an adult in 4 short years. She's seeing life rush at her fast & realizing shes next. Shattered my heart. 😭💔

I totally understand what she’s feeling. At 10 I had to move. You nailed her feelings perfectly. She’s crossing over to being a young teenager. 💗💗

Journaling helped me work through change. She's at the age it might help her too. My heart goes out to all of you. Moving is challenging. Yesterday is done, tomorrow is unknown, but today is a gift. Embrace the present. Lots of change coming. Especially, as your kids grow and embrace themselves. 💜💜💜

They are so lucky to have the both of you to guide them through this. So many kids have have to move in chaos and trauma without guidance. You guys are crushing it.

As a kid whose mom’s cancer diagnosis, changed my living situation multiple times, and my very security of home safe wasn’t secure, it’s ok. The growth that took place made me resilient. It made my mental health adjustable. It’s ok. I learned placement isn’t a place it’s your space it’s your mindset, and now I’m learning to be flexible &capable.

You need to have a conversation about how you are feeling with her. It will give her insight into what she is feeling.

When I moved in middle school I sat in my room on our last day and said goodbye to it, as an adult I did it to my first house I bought too.

Ask her what she wants or needs in her room to make it feel like her room in her space after a day or two. She is old enough to understand this was not your intent. That keeping her safe as your number one job. Hugs to everybody.
